Powerful tornadoes and severe storms swept across parts of the United States, killing at least six people and injuring more than a dozen as destructive weather struck Michigan and Oklahoma.

Authorities confirmed that four people were killed in southern Michigan, including a 12-year-old boy, while two additional deaths were reported in Oklahoma after violent storms moved through the region.

Massive Damage Reported Across Michigan

Emergency crews in southern Michigan spent hours searching through rubble and debris after suspected tornadoes tore through several communities on Friday.

In Branch County near Union City, officials reported three deaths and at least 12 injuries after a tornado caused widespread destruction. Homes were damaged, trees were uprooted, and power lines were knocked down across the area.

Authorities also reported another fatality in Cass County, located about 50 miles from Union City, where buildings and large structures suffered significant damage.

Local officials said hundreds of residents were left without electricity as strong winds destroyed power infrastructure and blocked roads.

12-Year-Old Among Victims

Branch County Sheriff Clint Roach confirmed that 12-year-old Silas Anderson died after sustaining weather-related injuries in Edwardsburg, Michigan.

According to officials, the boy’s family found him injured and attempted to provide first aid before he was taken to hospital, where he later died.

Authorities said the child was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.

Tornado Confirmed by Weather Officials

The National Weather Service (NWS) said an initial assessment confirmed an EF3 tornado struck the Union Lake area, with winds reaching up to 150 mph (241 km/h).

Meteorologists believe multiple tornadoes may have formed as powerful thunderstorms intensified rapidly across the region.

Experts say the storms developed in northern Indiana before moving into southern Michigan, producing dangerous tornado conditions.

Oklahoma Also Hit by Severe Storms

The same storm system caused fatalities in Oklahoma, where a tornado struck areas near Beggs, south of Tulsa.

Officials confirmed two people died when their home was hit by the tornado. Emergency crews also reported injuries and significant property damage.

The tornado carved a four-mile path of destruction across the area, toppling trees and damaging buildings.

State of Emergency Declared

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer activated the State Emergency Operations Center to coordinate disaster response and recovery efforts.

The governor said authorities are monitoring the situation closely and are ready to provide resources to affected communities.

Meanwhile, Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt declared a state of emergency in several counties to assist residents impacted by the storms.

Rescue and Relief Efforts Underway

Search and rescue teams continue to clear debris, restore power, and provide assistance to affected residents.
